Government High School Maina, Quepem, bagged the double, undefeated title in the under-17 boys and girls state-level kho-kho tournament organised by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Government High School Maina defeated the Government High School Hankane, Pernem, by three points ie 9-6 in the boys' section at the competition held at the Fatorda-Margao practice ground.
In the subsequent under-17 girls’ category, Government High School Maina also won the title by defeating Government High School Hankhane, Pernem, in a head-to-head match.
The winning Maina-Quepem boys’ team consisted of Rohit Raikar, Vasant Velip, Deepak Bhavdane, Raj Velip Yogesh Velip, Gautam Velip Adarsh Velip, Ankit Topo, Sai Dutt Naik Desai, Aryan Aitwade Swapnil Gawkar and Rishikesh Velip.
Representing the winning girls' team consisted of Narmita Gaonkar, Rituja Velip, Vidika Gaonkar, Grisha Phaldesai, Nisha Gaonkar, Priyani Velip, Sakshi Gaonkar, Tejya Velip Snehal Velip, Utkarsha Gaonkar and Samridhi Phaldesai.
The school headmistress Aida Lorenzo as well as the president of the Parent Teacher Association Rajendra Phaldesai congratulated both teams for their excellent performance. The winning teams were guided and trained by physical education teacher Sanjay Kashinath Shetkar.
