AAP candidate from Mormugao Parashuram Sonurlekar lodged a complaint with the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) regarding the coal dust on Friday, February 18.
Despite the high winds which was 30 km per hour, coal was being handled extensively at the port of Mormugao port, leaving the people of Sada to Baina and Vasco blackened with coal dust.
In February and March, wind speeds are stronger. As a result, dust pollution is more likely to develop in the area surrounding Vasco. Mormugao taluka is contaminated as a result of coal processing in Mormugao port.
Meanwhile, Goa State Pollution Control Authority issued a notice in February 2019 with a wind speed of 30 kph not to handle coal at any cost. Jindal and Adani were both notified with the order.
Parashuram Sonurlekar of Goa First pointed this out to all the concerned authorities, adding that the Goa State Pollution Control Authority has no control over the handling of coal from the Adani and Jindal stacking areas.
However, the daily wind speed has been 30 kph for the past month. Despite the fact that it has been more than an hour, coal handling is in high gear. As a result, coal dust is spreading in Headland Sada, Vasco city, and other locations surrounding Mormugao port's houses, shops, and establishments. It also has an impact on people's health.
"People are suffering the consequences," Sonurlekar stated in a complaint to the GSPCB
Sonurlekar and local residents have demanded that the GSPCB and other authorities should take immediate action against the companies and stop the handling of coal and cover the stored coal so that the coal dust does not spread due to wind
