A 54-year-old woman was killed by her adopted son and his minor girlfriend in Dhade, Sanvordem for allegedly opposing their relationship. Both the accused, Prathamesh Naik and his girlfriend were arrested by Curchorem police on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as 54-year-old Manisha Naik. Sources said Mangaldas Naik and his wife Manisha had adopted the accused Prathamesh Naik, who was living with them.

Prior to the murder, Prathamesh was staying at his relative’s house for a few days. On March 27 night Prathamesh secretly returned home with his girlfriend and went to sleep on the terrace.

On March 28 morning, neighbours heard Manisha screaming during the scuffle and they informed Mangaldas immediately, who was away from home. When Mangaldas returned in the afternoon, he found the door locked from inside and called out to his wife. On receiving no response, he contacted the neighbours and later informed the Curchorem Police, who broke the door only to find Manisha lying dead in a pool of blood.

Police have arrested the accused. During interrogation, he confessed to murdering his mother along with his girlfriend.

Curchorem police inspector Sagun Sawant conducted an autopsy and are further investigating the matter.
