Davorlim residents on Sunday took to the streets to protest against high water bills and held a protest against Public Works Department.

According to locals, they have been received inflated water supply bills for months now and have charged the highest slab of water supply rates when earlier they were of the low to the lowest slab of rates.

The residents have demanded that PWB demand issue the monthly bills and revise the increased bills.

Anand Sawant, a resident of Davorlim, said, "Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had said before the election not to pay the bills. But so far the government has not taken any decision on it. The government has indeed announced to provide 16,000 litres of water per month free of cost, then why people are receiving such inflated bills."

Rosie Miranda, a resident of Davorlim, also raised this question and said that she has received a bill of ten thousand rupees.

"We cannot afford to pay it. I want to know whether the government intends to fill the coffers by paying such bills," she said.

A resident told Gomantak Times that bills have been increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 14,000 while another resident stated that he has received a bill of Rs. 21,000.
