Two youth, who were identified as residents of Porvorim, died on the spot on Saturday, January 22, after their two wheeler hit a truck at the O Coqueiro junction, at Porvorim.
According to sources, the accident took place when a truck dashed against a two-wheeler. The impact was such that the two youth died on the spot after coming under the wheels of the truck.
Porvorim former MLA Rohan Khaunte, who rushed to the spot, said the intensity of the accident indicates that the driver was either under the influence of alcohol or drove the truck in a rash and negligent manner, which the police need to investigate.
“Compensation is one part but action has to be initiated against the culprit. The accident spot is a national highway, proper traffic management is required. This accident is result of reckless driving and these untimely deaths have shocked everyone. Rising accident cases is a serious concern in the State. We assure that whatever needs to be done will be done and justice will be delivered,” he said.
The bodies of both the youth were sent for post mortem. The police have arrested the driver of the truck.
