You could find ‘the one’ at this pet camp in Goa

The Pet Adoption and Health Check-up Camp taking place this Saturday lets you choose and take home your own furry companion

It’s only the chosen ones that get welcomed to wagging tails, nose-nudges and the gentlest licks. And, any pet owner will tell you that the first interaction never starts with them going, "I’d like to take this one," instead it’s their soon-to-be pet going, "woof woof," to their gentle caressing.

They choose you first. It’s almost like they see someone who deserves all the love. The unconditional type that comes from the purest hearts; the love only a pet is capable of giving.

So, if you are keen on experiencing what this bond feels like or are someone who has been longing to have a pet, here’s your chance to welcome your newest member into the family.

This December 16, the Giants Group of Panaji, in collaboration with PAWS (Panjim Animal Welfare Society) is organising a Pet Adoption Camp where those interested can adopt stray puppies and kittens, absolutely free of cost!

The camp will be conducted at Garcia de Orta (Municipal garden), Panjim, from 3.30 pm to 7.30pm.

Find your new best buddy at the Pet Adoption Camp.

“We are all aware of the menace of strays (especially dogs) that has reached alarming proportions in recent times. Parag Desai (the top executive at Wagh Bakri Tea Group) being attacked was only one of many such incidents. The population of strays is increasing, but what’s the solution?” asks Advocate Shukr Usgaokar, who is involved in the initiative.

He then answers the question saying, “Adopting serves two purposes. Firstly, those interested in having a pet can adopt one without spending a single penny, and secondly, it also ensures the welfare of the stray.

Adopting serves two purposes. Firstly, one can have a pet without spending a single penny, and secondly, it also ensures the welfare of the stray.

The choice of adopting over buying simply lies in caring for a dog that’s already in need of support. Strays are usually more prone to fatalities.

There’s an added danger of loitering on the streets, being vulnerable to diseases, accidents and more. So, letting them into your life is simply you providing a safe haven for these furry buddies.

Adopt and help a stray in need.

And, while being receivers of this endless affection, pet owners also take on the responsibility of their pets’ health. However, this added duty is also being simplified with the camp providing free check-ups for the first year.

“All animals adopted at the camp will be given free birth control surgery, vaccinations and health checkups for a year from the date of adoption. Similarly, if there are any pet health issues during the first year, they can approach PAWS,” informs Usgaokar.

If you already own a pet that requires a check-up, you can head to the camp where there will be complimentary anti-rabies vaccines and health check-ups, including de-worming, nail-clipping and ear-cleaning.

Attendees can also buy pet accessories including leashes, belts, collars, toys, water and food bowls while also supporting local artists by purchasing pet-themed merchandise such as mugs, sketchpads, postcards and more.

Maybe you’ll smile as their tiny paws follow you around, or forget the day’s stress when they cuddle you. But most of all, maybe you’ll end up adopting your best friend and find true love and companionship.
