Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated a Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) oxygen plant at South Goa District Hospital in Margao on Thursday.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate, DHS Dr Ira Almeida, Medical Superintendent of South Goa District Hospital Dr Deepa Correia, Medical Superintendent of ESI Hospital Vishwajit Phaldesai were also present on the occasion.
“The PSA Oxygen Plant at South Goa District Hospital wasinaugurated today by Hon. PM virtually. The plant will enhance the medical oxygen supply during emergencies. I would like to express my gratitude to PM Shri @narendramodi Ji for providing the Oxygen Plant under #PMCaresFund,” tweeted CM Pramod Sawant.
The PSA Oxygen plant at the South Goa District Hospital is among the 35 such units that were virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation (PM CARES) fund across 35 states and union territories.
“To address oxygen problem in Goa and prepare ourselves for the third wave, medical oxygen plants have been set up in seven different hospitals with PM cares. Goa has become self-sufficient in oxygen generation,” CM Pramod Sawant said.

During the second wave, the demand for oxygen had suddenly increased with the rise in patient load and the state administration had to request the Centre to raise its oxygen quota.
ESI hospital’s upper two floors, having together 84 beds, were converted into a Covid care facility on April 2 this year following a surge in infections. The hospital treated more than 2,000 Covid cases during the second wave.
