Not the first incident on this coast, which is known for its Olive Ridley nesting

Irresponsible domestic tourists drove a high-end SUV on the Morjim beach on Sunday morning in stark violation of the law, but paid a price when the vehicle got stuck in the sand.

In recent times, Goa, as a tourist destination, has started receiving more nuisance makers than high-end and civilized tourists.

The video of the Maharashtra-registered MG (Morris Garages) SUV (MH-12 UM-3399), which was stuck in the sand, went viral on social media where netizens questioned whether there will be police action in such incidents that are often making headlines in Goa.

When Gomantak Times tried to know about the police action, it was learnt from DySp Pernem Siddhant Shirodkar that a Pernem police team, including police inspector Dattaram Raut, had gone to the site to register an offence.

This is not the first incident in Morjim. In June, this year, a Delhi tourist drove an MG Hector on the same beach. The car got stuck in a similar fashion after which it had to be pulled out of the sand with the help of a tow vehicle.

In September 2021, a 25-year-old tourist was arrested by Pernem police after he drove his rent-a-car on the beach and into the water.

Morjim is known for its Olive Ridley turtles nesting and this fact somehow is not well publicised by the State tourism department to the tourists.
