South Goa Planning and Development Association's wholesale fish market sopo tax collection tendering process will be done before January 31, 2023. This will put an end to the rumours that some unauthorised people are allegedly collecting sopo tax from the wholesale vendors, says SGPDA chairman Krishna Salkar.

SGPDA wholesale fish market sopo tax collection tendering process will be done by January 31 in keeping with the deadline. “This issue of sopo tax collection and other issues concerning the SGPDA wholesale fish market should have been put in place much earlier, but now I am doing it quickly,” said Salkar.

Salkar and his team had come to inspect the SGPDA wholesale fish market area where the cleaning work has been going on. He told reporters at the site that almost 60 per cent of the new wholesale market project has been completed, and the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has requested additional land which is in the proximity of the existing fish market to complete the project.

When asked further about the shifting of the wholesale fish vendors to another place, the chairman said that presently they are cleaning the entire market stretch and trying to shift the wholesale vendors. The development of the other site will take almost Rs1.5 crore, which will remain functional for six months, and once the new market structure is ready, the fish vendors will be again shifted inside the new structure.

Salkar concluded by stating that by next week SGPDA will come up with a solution with regard to the shifting of wholesale fish vendors. He added that the sopo tax collection is being done by SGPDA, and every month the revenue generated is around Rs12 lakhs.
