Second G20 to focus on sustainable development issues

Around 71 foreign delegates expected to attend meet till May 11

The second G20 meeting – 3rd Developmental Working Group – starting today at the Taj Resort and Convention Centre, Dona Paula, will focus on sustainable development issues.

The meeting that will take place till May 11 is being attended by 71 foreign delegates from G20 nations.

The representatives will discuss and work towards finding solutions to global issues related to sustainable development, including digital principles, green transitions, and enhancing international coordination and partnerships.

Key topics of discussion will include the G20’s role in accelerating progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Preparations on various fronts have been smooth. Protocol, however, is by and large the most important- with adequate arrangements being made at the airport during arrivals.

"The 3rd Development Working Group is looking at how we can accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). We are aiming at some very bold actionable outcomes, including the high-level principles, which is pertaining to lifestyle for environment," said K Nagraj Naidu, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs.

He further stated that in order to achieve true gender equality and empower women, it is essential to adopt a development approach led by women themselves.

Sanjit Rodrigues, Nodal Officer G20 said that after the first meeting in April, Goa was well prepared to host this meeting and the ones to come.

From arrival of delegates, until they leave the Goan shore, various aspects are being thoroughly looked into to ensure a hassle free experience in Goa.

Reception counters are set up at both airports, Dabolim and Mopa, with volunteers and liaison officers who will interact with delegates and welcome them to Goa for the meeting.

Security measures have been thoroughly looked into to ensure safety and security of visiting delegates at all times, with a recee being conducted.

Police personnel have been deployed at all venues during the meet. Men in uniform and civil attire will be monitoring movement and security round the clock.
