As social media platforms have increased and technology has advanced we find that the world of media is growing at a faster pace. These new mediums of communication present an alternative social life.

In this atmosphere of dynamism, podcasts are proving to be the simplest and most effective medium of communication or information sharing.

In India, we have numerous storytellers and a wide listening audience. Fiction, folklore, life experiences or just information, as long as the content shared through podcasts is good, the number of listeners or followers will automatically increase.

Taking into consideration the need of the hour, the Sakal Media Group organised its first Marathi Podcast Summit in collaboration with Ideabrew Studios on Saturday 7th January.

At this summit, those wishing to learn about various aspects of producing and presenting Marathi podcasts were given guidance.

Aniruddha Pawade, the content head at Ideabrew Studios, explained to the participants the care needed to be taken while writing a podcast and how to write an effective podcast.

Renowned RJ Sangram also was present at the summit and guided the participants on various topics like conducting an effective interview through casual interaction, voice modulation required for a podcast, etc.

Participants shared their views and resolved that Marathi podcasters should help each other to develop in this new field of media.

At this summit, Stefanie Maria Feicht, Head of Platform - Content @ Sakal Media Group, from Germany, also participated through video conferencing.

She shared with the participants current developments in the field of podcasting throughout the world. She also expounded on the future opportunities to be available in India.

Some of the takeaways of the summit are:

  • Time is currency - respect the time of listeners

  • Always conduct research about the person you want to interview. Listen to their earlier interviews. If interviewing writers, make sure you read their books

  • Content is the focus, hence practice script writing.

  • Understand your listeners. Listen to their questions and views.

  • Think of how you can produce quality content with a minimum word count.

  • A podcast is a limitless medium of communication. It does not have rules and regulations. Therefore, estimate your boundaries and navigate these boundaries.

  • Stay updated.
