Russian arrested in Goa for drug possession worth Rs 5 lakh

A Russian national was arrested in North Goa for possession of hashish (charas).

A Russian national was recently arrested from Kannaikwada, Morjim in North Goa for possession of hashish (charas), which was valued at Rs 5 lakh in the international market, police said.

According to Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi of Pernem Police Station, they received the information from a citizen that a Russian citizen named Mark Smysslov had hidden drugs in a grey Maruti Swift car No. GA-11-A-2957. It was further notified to the police, that he was using the vehicle on a rent basis and was distributing drugs. 

According to the reports, the police formed a team and conducted the raid on Wednesday at 4.30 pm. Based on the information, PI Jivba Dalvi formed a team comprising PSI Sanjit Kandolkar, Praveen Mahale, PC Vinod Pednekar, Arjun Kalangutkar, Sandesh Varak and Mahesh Naik. The said team conducted a raid and arrested Smyslov while he was on his way to deliver the drug to a customer.

The Goa Police registered the case under Section 20 (b) (ii) (b) of the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway under the supervision of SDPO Mhapsa Shri Gajanan Prabhudesai and Superintendent of Police Shri Shobit Saxena.
