Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the underground electricity cable project at Keri-Teracol which is worth Rs 3 crore.

Teracol Village is situated at the North-Western tip of Goa with its boundaries touching Maharashtra. 60 years since the liberation of Goa, basic amenities such as electricity, water and telephone lines are still supplied by Maharashtra to Teracol.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone, Chief Minister Sawant said, “The aluminium armoured underground cable at Keri will allow providing electricity to Tiracol, part of Keri village.”

“All these years, the State use to get water and electricity supplied from Maharashtra for the people residing in Tiracol. However, after completion of the underground cabling project, the state will be in a position to provide electricity to the Tiracol residents,” he said.

The government is working to ensure that each and every citizen and villager has access to not only basic amenities but other beneficial facilities too,” the Chief Minister added.

Sawant laid the foundation stone in the presence of Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte. Appealing to the people to support the development, Sopte said, “The previous MLAs did not look at Terekhol village from a humanitarian point of view and never tried to get power supply from the state. When he becaome the MLA, he took Power Minister Nilesh Cabral to Terekhol village, listened to the problems of the people and after discussing with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, got approval to lay underground power lines.”
