As part of the drive against liquor smuggling, the Pernem Excise Department seized a consignment of 300 boxes of beers and foreign-made liquor, worth Rs 12 lakhs at Patra Devi check post in the early of Thursday.
The liquor was being illegally transported to Panvel- Patra Devi via Goa in a truck ( MH16CC8200).
A team led by Inspector Amol Harwalkar along with Dilip Tilve, Nilesh Gawde, Shankar Paryenkar, Devidas Naik, Vitobha Malvankar and Satish Tilve were involved in the operation.
According to the police, when the officials inquired the driver about the documents, he did not answer and try to flee with the keys to his vehicle. After inspecting the documents, officers found that vehicle's permit was found to be a fake base card.
In Pernem, there are three major checkpoints - Patradevi, Aronda-Kiranpani and Nhaybagh – that are becoming a hub for looters in the state.
