Peers are an agent of socialisation in early childhood and are a big influence on behaviour, style, life choices and much more, said Nidhin Valsan, IPS, while launching the training on socialisation and addressing deviant behaviours in institutional settings.
This was done in the presence of Agnelo Fernandes, Commissioner, Labour and Employment and Peter F Borges, Chairperson, Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights at the Conference Hall, Model Career Centre, Shram Shakti Bhavan, Panjim on August 22, 2023.
The training, organised by the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, is being attended by over 40 participants from registered children’s homes in North Goa. Dr Edisson Fernandes, a reputed psychologist working with children and young people in Goa, is conducting the training.
Peer relationships can contribute negatively to social and emotional development and create negative and abusive environments and need to be addressed, said Agnelo Fernandes.
The caretaker’s role in children’s homes is critical to children receiving high-quality care, and in the home, achieving good outcomes. This is a professional role that is broad, demanding and rewarding, said Peter F Borges while addressing the gathering.
The second training on the subject matter will be held on August 23 for the registered childcare institutions based in South Goa at the South Goa Collectorate.
The Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights is conducting a series of capacity-building programmes for various stakeholders to strengthen the child protection ecosystem in Goa.
