A tiebreaker will decide who will lift the CG Varkey (IRS) Heritage silver rolling trophy of the Parkonnem–Kitem Tem Sang contest 2022 organised by the Chicalim Bio-Crusaders.

The tiebreaker was announced by the Chicalim Bio-Crusaders on Sunday, December 11, at the Regina Mundi School Hall in Chicalim at 6 pm to pick the winner of the Parkonnem–Kitem Tem Sang contest trophy this year.

Raisa Fernandes and Ashley Afonso have made history by winning this unique parkonnem contest three years running. Therefore, the Chicalim Bio-Crusaders have decided to opt for a parkonnem tiebreaker to decide the ultimate winner of the heritage trophy that is on offer.

Cyril Fernandes, convenor of the Chicalim Bio-Crusaders, informed that on Monday they announced the winners and runners-up of their Parkonnem-Kitem Tem Sang contest 2022.

In addition to Raisa and Ashley, five others also cracked all fifty Konkani riddles that were posed in this contest. Their names are Aquila Rodrigues, Cliff Fernandes, Maria Olga Pires, Alberto Rodrigues and Angelo Pires. All seven won Rs 5000 each.

The runners-up of the contest are named along with the score in brackets. They are Albert Jacques (49), Lulwa Mesquita (49), Perpetua Jacques (48), Mita D’Costa (43) and Fatima Fernandes (40).

Norman Noronha from Kuwait was also one of the runners-up with 44 correct answers. But he withdrew from the race since he had offered the runners-up cash awards. Noronha requested that the next candidate be considered for the award.

The prize distribution will be held on Sunday, December 11, after the tiebreaker result.

Furthermore, the Parkonnem-Kitem Tem Sang finale will witness a cultural fusion consisting of performances of fugddiodhaloghumttam naach, Ashley-One Man Band and fado queen Sonia Shirsat performing live that evening.

Govind Gaude, Minister for Art and Culture, will be the chief guest of the function and will distribute the prizes.

The Chicalim Bio-Crusaders have also invited Francis Varkey, son of late CG Varkey (IRS) to grace the occasion and hand over the silver trophy named after his father.

Late CG Varkey (IRS), who was one of the earliest IRS officers posted in Goa after its liberation, worked in Goa as assistant collector until 1987 when he was transferred to Cochin customs.

The Chicalim Bio-Crusaders have extended an invitation to all parkonnem lovers to come and witness this parkonnem breaker and enjoy Goa’s traditional cultural fusion too.
