The Mormugao Municipal Corporation on Monday removed encroachments and belongings of illegal vendors from the four-lane highway at Varnapuri-Mangor hills.

Following directions from Municipal inspector Saby Pereira, officials removed the belonging of vendors

Vendors especially women started selling fruits, vegetables and other items by crossing the highway. Gradually the number increased, several people brought handcarts and set up food stalls. The lane also crossed the parking line while widening the spaces of their seats as a small market. People halted their vehicles to buy and obstructed the traffic.

As there was a turn at this place, the vehicles parked on the road could not be seen by other drivers which lead to many accidents.

Earlier, the Vasco Traffic Police department complained with the Mormugao Municipal Corporation regarding the encroachment before a major accident takes place.
