A semi-naked body of a missing girl was found washed ashore on the Calangute beach on Thursday early morning.
According to the police, the body of the 19-year-old girl, who hailed from a village in Bardez, came to light after people saw the semi-naked body of a girl on the main Calangute beach. Police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem to Goa Medical College and Hospital, where the doctors ruled out any foul play and attributed the cause of death to drowning.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and the deceased body has been identified by the family. “Post-mortem examination shows that this is not a case of sexual assault or any violence of that sort. The cause of death is drowning. In such case where we find dead bodies, we register a case of unnatural death and during the inquiry, other aspects are looked into to ascertain that there is no foul play,” said North Goa SP Shobit Saxena.
Earlier on Thursday, the recovery of the girl’s body on the Calangute beach had triggered outrage with citizens blaming the government and circulating the picture of the girl’s body on social media.
