In what turned out to be a bloody day for Baina, Vasco, a 33-year-old man was hacked to death with koitas (sharp weapons) by a group of four people on Monday at 3 pm in broad daylight.
Later in the evening, the police detained two from the group -- Deepak Sahani and Amir (full names not known) -- who were on the run. They were nabbed at Banastarim.
Two koitas used in the attack have been seized.
The police gave the name of the deceased as Umesh Harijan from Katem-Baina who, they said, ran a bar in the area.
Mormugao DySP Rajesh Kumar said they are suspecting some previous enmity as the probable reason behind the gruesome act.
The victim was returning after having lunch at a sarvajanik Ganesh utsav pandal at Baina when the four persons waylaid and attacked him.
The accused allegedly stabbed him from behind with koitas which they had carried along with them.
Police said that Umesh had several cut injuries. A forensic team and dog squad were seen at the site to pick up vital clues.
