After incessant night rains from Saturday night to Sunday morning, flood-like conditions have surfaced in several parts of Canacona taluka.
Canacona has received 4.33 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. The region has received 116.83 inches of rain, said Kalpana Velip, Engineer, Water Resources Department.
The service at road Galgibaga at Apheval has been closed because of heavy flooding with an entire stretch of 150m inundated for 3 hours. The flooding of stretch brought back the harrowing memories of flash-floods of 2009 where two individuals lost their lives in the floodwaters at the same place and caused extensive damage to houses, livestock and plantation.
To streamline the discharge of water, lakhs of rupees were spent on the drain of Adivali for removing the silt from the drain and widening the drain. However, due to an engineering fault, the Adivali road was flooded, according to Venkatrai Naik, a resident of the area.
