PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that the State government will issue notices to 42 mining companies to recover dues in illegal mining. Replying to a starred question, Sawant informed that the team of 16 chartered accountants had pegged the losses at Rs 1200 crore. “Based on the report of the CAs (chartered accountants), 42 companies will be issued notices within a month to recover the money. Nobody will be spared. The State government till date has recovered Rs 3.99 crore from the defaulters,” Sawant assured. He was responding to Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco, who questioned on why it took so long for the State government to recover dues from the mining companies. He also sought to know why the reply given to him did not provide the names of persons against whom proceedings were underway in connection with illegal mining. “Currently, nine cases are under investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). As they are under investigation, I do not want to disclose their names in the House. The government has filed a revision petition in the Bombay High Court at Goa in one acquittal case. We are fast tracking these cases,” said Sawant.
