In a decisive and comprehensive response to the escalating challenge of substance abuse within educational settings, the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has meticulously developed the Substance Abuse Policy for Schools 2024.

This policy, which is strongly recommended for the swift adoption by the Directorate of Education, epitomises the Commission's dedication to creating a nurturing, secure, and substance-free educational landscape, affirming its unwavering commitment to the well-being and holistic development of students.

"This policy marks a transformative step towards nurturing the hearts and minds of our young generation. It's about creating a sanctuary where education and well-being go hand in hand, guiding our students towards a future replete with opportunities and devoid of the shadows cast by substance abuse," remarked Chairperson Peter F Borges, emphasising the profound impact of the policy.

The policy has been meticulously designed to comprehensively address substance abuse, focus on early prevention, prompt intervention, and robust support mechanisms.

It reflects the Commission's firm commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards substance use, ensuring a concerted and strategic approach in tackling this issue at its roots, thereby safeguarding the health and future of the student community.

The Goa SCPCR's introduction of 'Prahari Clubs', i.e., anti-drugs club in high schools and higher secondary schools marks an inspiring movement of drawing students and educators together in a spirited fight against substance abuse.

Spearheaded by committed nodal teachers and student leaders, these clubs emerge as dynamic hubs of student empowerment.

They are not just forums, but beacons of change that are actively driving anti-drug initiatives and cultivating a school community that's not just informed, but resilient and proactive in ensuring a healthy, drug-free environment.

The policy emphasises the crucial role of collaboration among students, educators, and parents, underscoring the shared responsibility in creating a drug-free educational environment.
