The first community seed bank of Goa will be inaugurated on Wednesday at Curtorim in an event organised by the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) in association with the Curtorim Biodiversity Management Committee and the Curtorim Panchayat.

GSBB Chairman Dr Pradip Sarmokadam informed that GSBB, in association with the Curtorim BMC, will have an inauguration programme on Wednesday at the Curtorim BMC office at 9.30 am.

The inauguration of this seed bank will be held in the presence of the Minister for Environment Nilesh Cabral, environmentalist Dr Vandana Shiva and Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco.

A seed bank is a place where seeds are stored to preserve genetic diversity for the future.

Meanwhile, there will be two more events organised by GSBB -- inauguration of Govan Sale Centre and the Navdanya Centre -- at the Panjim Residency at 12 pm. This will be followed by the inauguration of the Traditional Food Fest at 4 pm in association with the Rotary Club of Margao Sunrise.

An interactive session by Dr Vandana Shiva on the topic “Biodiversity Friendly Farming” will take place later at Maquinez Palace, Panjim.
