If you are travelling to Goa this year, don’t be surprised if the name of the new airport shows up on the screen, as Greenfield International Airport, at Mopa, Pernem, Goa is all set to be ready and commissioned by September 1, 2022.

Goa Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, said that the new airport would be inaugurated somewhere between August 15, 2022 and August 30, 2022. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is expected to inaugurate the Mopa airport in Goa.

He also said that testing for smooth landing and takeoff at the airport would commence soon. “More than 500 Goans have been hired to work at the Mopa airport project site, while others have received their appointment letters,” added Sawant.

The reason for having another airport, in addition to Dabolim, in South Goa, is that it will help enhance the state’s air connectivity. There have been frequent problems of congestion at Dabolim airport because military as well civilian flights operate from the airport's single runaway.

The new airport at Mopa is being developed by GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Airports Limited (GAL).
