Goa reported another spike in the number of new cases of Covid on Saturday. The coastal state recorded 1,789 new cases of Covid-19 while one death due to the virus was reported. The positivity rate rose to 23.25 per cent with a total active caseload reaching 7,549 in the state.

Testing has been increased significantly with 7693 tests done in the last 24 hours. The state reported 170 recoveries with a recovery rate dropping to 94.11 per cent. 17 people were hospitalised on Friday.

Panaji and Margao are witnessing the highest number of active cases. Vasco, Ponda and Porvorim have also seen a big rise in active caseload.

Meanwhile, the experts' committee has recommended that Covid curbs should be linked to hospital admission and not the positivity rate. "If admissions at Super Speciality hospital goes beyond 10 per cent, the government can impose restrictions of 50 per cent gatherings. If admissions go beyond 40 per cent at a super speciality hospital, further restrictions can be implemented. If admissions go beyond 50 per cent in SSH, GMC and SGDH, the government can impose a lockdown in the state," said Dr Shekar Salkar.

The Omicron case count remains at 19 as of Friday.
