Goa ranks first in Food Safety Index

For the fourth consecutive year, Goa has topped the State Food Safety Index (SFSI)

On the occasion of World Food Safety Day, the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, released the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)’s 4th State Food Safety Index (SFSI), in which Goa ranked first.

The State Food Safety Index (SFSI) works to ensure that the States /UTs work towards ensuring safe food for citizens. And, as per their performance for the year 2021-22, Goa stood first, followed by Manipur and Sikkim.

Among the larger states, Tamil Nadu was first, followed by Gujarat and Maharashtra. Among the Union Territories of India, Jammu & Kashmir came in the first position, followed by Delhi and Chandigarh which secured second and third rank respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Health Minister, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya said that healthcare in the country had seen a development in a holistic way. “We will ensure health security for every citizen in the country focusing on primary, secondary and tertiary health care,” he added.

He also emphasized on the role of every state to ensure food safety and healthy food practices among its people.

The minister also feliciated the States/UT for their performance.
