The Goa government on Wednesday approved the procurement of two bullet-proof vehicles for the movement of Very Important Persons (VIPs). The proposal had been lying with the government for almost three years now.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the government has cleared the files for outfitting two bullet-proof cars for VVIPs and VIPs.
“We have cleared for retro-fitting two Toyota Fortuners with bullet-proofing. The government did not have bullet-proof vehicles. It has been given cabinet approval. Two vehicles belonging to the Goa police are being sent for bullet-proof outfitting,” he said.
Goa police relied on Maharashtra or Karnataka for bullet-proof vehicles whenever a dignitary visited the state.
More than 500 VIPs visit Goa every year. The VIP movement is highest during Christmas and New year periods.
