The International Purple Fest – Goa, to be held from January 8 to 13, this year will serve as a platform for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) to showcase their abilities and talents.

The fest will also enlighten them on various government schemes available for their benefit.

The event encompasses various sessions focusing on types of disabilities, guiding participants on effectively facing and managing challenges.

Additionally, special sessions have been organised for parents of differently-abled individuals, offering valuable guidance on caregiving.

At a meeting at the Porvorim Accounts Department, Swayampurna Mitras were apprised of their role at the International Purple Fest – Goa as they will be assisting the PwDs.

Goa State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Guruprasad Pawaskar, initiated the meeting with a comprehensive presentation, unveiling a diverse spectrum of activities and attractions at the event.

Noteworthy additions this year will include excursions, cruises, movie screenings and the introduction of numerous engaging games and activities, promising participants a dynamic and enjoyable experience.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said, “Last year’s Purple Fest was a revelation. Discussions about this event spread not only in Goa, but across the country.”

Sawant encouraged the Swayampurna Mitras to actively engage in their communities, identifying differently-abled individuals and assisting them in obtaining a UDID card.

The card, he said, would help facilitate access to necessary equipment, aligning with Goa’s commitment to supporting the differently-abled community.

Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai expressed gratitude for the commendation and abilities of those involved in the initiative. He highlighted the significance of Purple Fest as a movement, providing a revolutionary step in the lives of individuals with disabilities.
