PANAJI: The Old Goa Police on Sunday registered first information report (FIR) against Wilson Godinho, brother of Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho and Panaji-based businessman Tahir in connection with alleged suicide of former Merces sarpanch Prakash Naik. The FIR against Wilson Godinho and Tahir has been registered under section 306 (for abatement of suicide) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) after Prakash's sister Akshaya Govekar lodged a complaint. Earlier, on Sunday morning the family members along with a group of villagers went to the Old Goa police station and lodged their complaint. They demanded that both Wilson and Tahir be called for investigations and placed under arrest.
Prakash in his last message in Whatsapp group had held Wilson Godinho and Tahir, a businessman from Panaji responsible for taking this extreme step. He had accusing them of “blackmailing” and “harassing” him over the money dispute. Prakash allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself to death with his revolver at his residence at Voilebhat, Merces on Friday. Superintendent of Police, North Utkrisht Prasoon said that the FIR had been registered against Wilson Godinho and another person identified as Tahir following a complaint by Prakash Naik's relatives. He further said that the Old Goa police were conducting investigations and all those named in the FIR would be summoned for questioning. The police had initially filed a case of unnatural death but after Prakash Naik's family named both the men in their complaint, the police registered the case under section 306 (abatement to suicide) of IPC against the duo.
Old Goa PI Krishna Sinari is conducting investigations under the supervision of Panaji DySP Uttam Raut Desai and SP North, Utkrisht Prasoon. Meanwhile, Prakash's family on Sunday late evening said that they will now receive the body and hold cremation at Merces at 2:30 pm on Monday, January 20. On Saturday, the family members had refused to take possession of the body, demanding arrest of Wilson Godinho and Tahir.
