The menace of beggars is one of the chronic problems plaguing Goa. The state, which boasts of its world-class tourism experience and being the Rome of the East, has no solution regarding the problem of increasing numbers of beggars.
The Goa Police are trying their bit to curb this menace. On Tuesday, the police in Fatorda nabbed some beggars in the area.
Goa as a tourist destination attracts tourists from all over the world. While this is true, beggars and the homeless also find Goa a suitable place for their survival and a haven to live.
The Government of Goa has been lately trying to promote tourism in Goa by organising various mega events and activities. But sadly, the surge in beggars and the homeless, which we see at the signal stations, ferries, bus stands, etc, are a real nuisance to encounter.
The Fatorda police team on Tuesday undertook a drive against these beggars who were found next to the Osia Multiplex ground.
Speaking to reporters, Fatorda police inspector Direndra Naik said that the Fatorda police on Tuesday morning nabbed 12 beggars and homeless people, which included some women and children. The children have been sent to Apna Ghar, following all the court guidelines.
He further informed that the police team will continue such drives to curb the chronic issue of beggars and the homeless in Fatorda.
