Diamond jubilee celebration of Rotary Club Margao

Various events will be held with exciting prizes

Rotary Club of Margao (RCM), which was chartered on March 17, 1963, is celebrating its diamond jubilee year. A 3-day programme – UMANG, from March 15 to 17, has been organised at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, to mark this occasion. 

At a press conference addressed by Deep Karapurkar, the president, and Liston Barreto, the secretary, the schedule of the 3-day event was released.

On March 15, a blood donation camp will be conducted on the first floor of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, in association with the blood bank of Hospicio Hospital

President Deep Karapurkar appealed to all to make this camp a grand success by participating in this noble cause. The camp will be open from 10 am to 1 pm.

A Rotary Margao quiz will also be held on March 15 from 2 pm at the Conference Hall. This quiz will cover Margao and the Rotary Club, and will be open to participants of all age groups, with 2 participants in each team for the open category. There will also be a separate school category for high schools and higher secondary schools.

Seventy per cent of the questions will be about Margao and its history, heritage, culture and other aspects and twenty-five per cent will be about Rotary International and its history, personalities and programmes.

The Rotaract Club of Margao joins in the celebrations on the same day by hosting Goenkar's Got Talent, a talent hunt contest, at the Black Box, starting at 3 pm. 

There is no language or age barrier for this contest, and each contestant will have 3 minutes in which to showcase her or his talent, like music, dance, singing, stand-up comedy, etc. There are cash prizes for the winners with a special prize for unique talent.

On March 16, popular and accomplished speaker Dr Sanjay Upadhye will deliver a talk "From Inner Peace to World Peace". 

Dr Upadhye is a renowned orator and writer who has delivered talks and lectures in more than 15 countries, blending knowledge and education with entertainment. His talk will be a non-spiritual lecture on tips about how to live a peaceful life and will begin at 4 pm at the Conference Hall on the first floor.

On March 17, the Inner Wheel Club of Margao will host a women's grooming workshop Style Within Reach at the Black Box from 10 am to 2 pm. As part of the workshop, Mumtaz Nurany of Taj Beauty Parlour, Margao, will be conducting hairstyle and makeup sessions, and Shikha Sardessai, a fashion designer will be having saree draping sessions.

Entry is open to all. The last date for registration is March 14. UMANG will conclude with an All-Goa Senior Citizen's Singing Contest, the finals of which will be held at 3.30 pm at the Conference Hall. Open to all above 60 years, the preliminary round of this contest will be held on March 12 at the Rotary Club of Margao hall.

Qualifiers from the preliminary round will feature in the finals. The Rotary Club of Margao has appealed to everybody to participate in the 3-day celebration and make it a grand success. 

President Karapurkar said that his club looks forward to an encouraging response from people so that they are inspired to serve the community with greater enthusiasm.
