There has been a rise in dengue cases in Vasco da Gama. Patients with a low blood platelet count have moved to the Goa Medical College Hospital, according to the information given by the Chicalim sub-district hospital’s health officer Dr Anil Umraskar.
The City Health Centre has started several interventions to spread awareness about dengue among citizens. To control the spread of the disease, local corporators of Navewade have started the spray of pesticides in areas where the number of patients is high. To prevent the disease, there has been the dissemination of important information on a house to house basis. Disinfectant fumes used for repelling mosquitoes were released in certain areas. Despite these efforts, there isn’t a significant decrease in cases.
According to Dr Umraskar, about 25-30 people have been coming to Chicalim Sub-District Hospital daily for dengue-related treatment. Most of the patients are from Wade, Navewade, Daboli, Bogmali, Zuarinagar and surrounding areas. The hospital is full as dengue patients come every day as patients with low blood platelets need more treatment.
Former corporator Krishna Salkar has appealed for the disposal of mosquito breeding grounds and urged citizens to take precautions to prevent the spread of dengue malaria. Salkar visited many areas around the city amidst the rise in dengue cases Mosquito breeding grounds were cleaned and disinfected with disposing of any items like coconut shells which can lead to mosquito breeding were disposed of. Housing societies were inspected for any faults in the water storage department to prevent the growth of dengue. Several restaurants have been warned regarding the accumulated soft drink bottles which could cause the breeding of mosquitos. Salkar also announced about using spraying pesticides and emitting mosquito repellent smoke to control the spread of dengue.
