Dateline Goa: Car hits stray cattle on University road, Taleigao

The driver of a car escaped with minor injuries when his car hit a stray cattle on the University Road, Taleigao, between 3.30 am and 4 am on Monday.

The Panjim town police said they received the wireless message of the mishap only at 8 am today after which a team rushed to the spot.

The windscreen of the car was shattered and the front portion completely damaged. The grievously injured cow, which was hit by the vehicle, lay at the spot for several hours before it was shifted to a cattle pound at Mayem.

ASI Shekhar Amonkar attached to the Panjim town police said the driver (name given as Felix D'Souza), was lucky to escape with minor injuries. He said D'Souza may have been wearing the seat belt at the time of the accident or else he would have been flung off from inside the car.

Amonkar said according to some labourers staying close by, the cow seems to have come from nowhere in front of the speeding car catching the driver unawares.

40-yr-old man falls to death from 3rd floor of building

A 40-year-old man allegedly fell to his death from a third-floor building at Alto-Dabolim on Monday evening.

Vasco PI Kapil Nayak gave the name of the deceased as Pradeep Buvad, resident of flat No A-301, Peter Paul Enclave, Andre building, Alto-Dabolim.

Nayak said it was too early to say whether the man fell to his death or committed suicide. He was drunk at the time of the incident which happened at around 6.30 pm, he added.

He informed that the deceased was staying alone.

Panjim's ever-burgeoning traffic chaos is one thing, but those visiting the city continue to flout the law by parking their vehicles on zebra crossings meant for pedestrians who have the right of way.

Deady body found floating in water near Divja circle

The Panjim town police on Monday took custody of an unknown dead body, age between 60 and 70 years, which was found floating in the river Mandovi, close to Divja Circle.

PSI Amir Taral informed that there were no stab marks or wounds on the body and the face was recognisable and fresh.

The police are yet to ascertain the identity of the body, which has been sent to GMC for post-mortem and preservation.

Workers at work to open a sewerage manhole near the Corporation of the City of Panaji building on Monday. The bandicoot robot, which is seen in the picture, was put into operation to clean the manhole. The robot, which was handed over to the PWD (STP-Tonca), on July 18, started operation on August 1. A CCP source said the target is to clean 100 manholes per month.

Truck skids off road near Cuncolim bus stand

A truck driver of a fish-laden truck had a miraculous escape after his vehicle skidded and went off the road at Uskini Band, near the Cuncolim bus stand in the wee hours of Monday.

According to the Cuncolim PI Tukaram Chawan, the accident occurred at around 2.30 am. He said the driver walked away with simple injuries.
