Congress youth and women wing members on Friday, January 14 met the in-charge of Women's Police Station to question why no FIR has been lodged against former BJP minister Milind Naik in a sex scandal case.
Protesting against the actions of the former minister, Congress supporters burnt the effigy of Milind Naik outside their party's office in Panaji.
Congress vice-president Sankalp Amonkar had on December 15 lodged a complaint against Milind Naik in a sex scandal case.
Women Congress President Beena Naik said, "A month has passed but the police have not registered a case of Milind Naik yet.
"Forcing a woman to have an abortion is a serious crime, but the BJP government is trying to save Milind Naik, how will women feel safe in Goa when criminals are protected?" Bina Naik questioned.
She further mentioned as soon as the victim lodged a complaint against Sankalp Amonkar at the Bihar police station, she was transferred to the Margao police station and a case was registered. At the same time, Goa police should have registered a case against Milind Naik.
She also added that Sankalp Amonkar is harassed by the BJP government and was called to the Crime Branch for questioning in the case lodged by the victim.
Youth Congress President Varad Mardolkar said if the police failed to register a case against Milind Naik, they will take it to court." These police officers are acting at the behest of the BJP government. They will have to face action," he said.
He added that Sankalp Amonkar is getting good response in Mormugao, so BJP is harassing him by calling him to the crime branch to ruin his political career.
Women's Congress President Beena Naik, Youth Congress President Varad Mhardolkar and women from various Congress constituencies were present on the occasion.
