MARGAO: The opposition Congress Party on Friday condemned the act of the State government and Goa police department for registering FIR against the Church organ - Council for Social Justice and Peace (CSJP) and the National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation (NCHRO) for allegedly exposing children at Anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) meeting at Margao. Congress demanded that the police should also register FIR against the organisers of pro-CAA rally held at Porvorim on December 19, wherein organisers there also used school children in the rally. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar alleged that the BJP government was suppressing the voice of people and democracy. He informed that the Congress party will file a petition before the the court challenging FIR filed against the CSJP and the NCHRO. Girish said, "FIR against CSJP proves that the government has declared an emergency in Goa. Feels this government is crushing the protesters. The government is not allowing citizens to express their views and protest. Earlier, the government had imposed Section 144 section at the time of Mhadei rive ragitation." The GPCC president said that they were shocked hearing on the news that within no time the police registered FIR against the Church-backed organisation CSJP. "There have been several complaints filed by Congress party with regard to major corruption in Goa, but despite giving evidence police have not registered an FIR and nor conducted any inquiry. But FIR against the protestors proves that this government is abusing the power. Police are getting politicised. Now there is no trust in police. The government wants to suppress the voice of people," he alleged. Girish informed that on December 19, a rally was organised at Porvorim to support the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) wherein hundreds of children were brought by the organisers and those children marched on the roads. Reacting to Supreme Court order allowing mining leaseholders to transport ore that was mined prior to March 15, Girish said that the BJP government and the Chief Minister were taking credit over the petition filed by the Chowgule and Company. "Actually the State government has no role to play with regard to the apex court order. The government not even had filed an application in the Supreme Court. But, despite knowing all the things the Chief Minister was taking credit over the Supreme Court order and also trying to take its advatnage during the ensuing Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections," Girish said. The Congress president said that the BJP government had fooled the people of Goa on the mining issue. "CM should answer why the government took 20 months to file a revision petition in the Supreme Court? What government has done in those 20 months?", he questioned.
