Newly-appointed Cardinal, Filipe Neri Ferrão, arrived in Goa from Rome, early Monday.
The new cardinal was given a warm welcome by politicians and church leaders at the Dabolim international airport.
Hundreds were present to receive the cardinal and many among them were from his village, Aldona.
Aldona MLA, Carlos Ferreira, who was present at the airport, said it was a proud day for Goans and they were overjoyed.
MLAs Viriato Fernandes, Aleixo Sequeira and Antonio Vas were also present.
