The International Purple Fest Goa 2024, organised by the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, is poised to make a significant impact by offering state-of-the-art modular below-knee and above-knee prosthesis at no cost.
The assessment will take place at Rugnashraya in Kalapur, Tiswadi, starting from January 24, between 9.30 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5.30 pm.
Minister of Social Welfare Subhash Phal Dessai said, “I am honoured to announce that the International Purple Fest Goa 2024 is set to make a transformative impact. This generous endeavour exemplifies our commitment to enabling amputees to lead more fulfilling and joyful lives. The Purple Fest stands as a beacon of positive change in fostering inclusivity and well-being for all.”
Guruprasad Pawaskar, the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, expressed his enthusiasm about the positive influence of the fest.
He announced, "I am pleased to share that as part of the impact of the fest, prosthetics for below-knee and above-knee amputees will be made available free of cost. This marks a significant stride in enabling individuals who require such prosthetics to lead more fulfilling and joyful lives."
This commendable initiative is made possible through collaboration with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Rugnashraya. The collective aim is to improve the quality of life for individuals in need of prosthetic limbs.
The International Purple Fest 2024 was held in Goa earlier in January from 8 to 13, displaying the outstanding skills of persons with disabilities. The second edition of the festival celebrated inclusivity, diversity, and empowerment, bringing together Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) from India and 17 other countries.
The week-long celebration included various events and sessions that focused on different types of disabilities, guiding participants on effectively facing and managing challenges.
Additionally, parents of the differently-abled individuals were offered valuable guidance on caregiving. Participants were also informed about the various government schemes available to aid them on their journey. All in all, the sheer grit, never giving up spirit remained the highlight of this one-of-a-kind festival.
