Voluntary services generally don’t last for very long, and usually have a short shelf life, especially if they are tedious or involve long hours or it is connected with government service. But, there are exceptions to the rule, as is proved by Bosco D’Sa, a senior citizen who has been serving as a traffic warden at Mapusa Court Junction, that too, providing uninterrupted voluntary services for the last 14 years.

The Court Junction is one of the busiest junctions in Mapusa city. Bosco helps manage traffic voluntarily in the morning session, ensuring smooth transportation and safe crossing for school-going students.

In the vicinity of the junction, there are schools and offices as well as the court and the Mapusa Municipal Council building. So, the area is always crowded and has a constant flow of vehicles. In the morning, one can witness heavy traffic at the junction. Bosco, in his traffic personnel uniform, has been instrumental in maintaining smooth traffic, from 7.30 am to 9 am daily, for the last 14 years, and is known to almost all travellers on the route.

Speaking to GT, Bosco said, “Schools have now reopened, and it is a pleasure to see students walking to school. In order to ensure smooth traffic management, it is necessary to turn off traffic signals at some junctions in the morning as everyone is in a hurry to reach their destination,” he said.
