Goa Trinamool Congress General Secretary Yatish Naik on Wednesday, January 26, who was among first crop of leaders from Goa to Trinamool Congress, tendered his resignation ahead of the Goa Assembly election 2022.
Naik's resignation comes soon after the party ignored his claim for a ticket to contest from the Saligao Assembly constituency. He accused the party of being bereft of principles.
Naik in his resignation said, "With the kind of politics at work, I am pained beyond measure and I would simply prefer to keep myself completely aloof from all this at least till the elections. I do not wish to be a party to or involve myself with such kind of politics which is bereft of all principles,"
"Seeing the manner in which the party is functioning, I find no good reason to continue being a member of the Trinamool Congress. I feel humiliated, tired and dejected for having been made to go through all this," he also said.
Naik was one of the first Congress office-bearers, who had joined the Trinamool Congress in September last year along with former Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro and former MLA Lavoo Mamledar. Mamledar also quit the party last month.
In the 2017 Assembly polls, Congress had won 17 seats in the tiny coastal state to emerge as the single largest party. However, the BJP, which was in second place in terms of seats, quickly stitched an alliance with smaller parties and Independent MLAs to form its government in Goa.
The election for the 40 seats will take place on February 14, and the ballots will be counted on March 10.
