Five-time MLA and Trinamool Congress leader Churchill Alemao on Monday promised that the Trinamool Congress would provide the formalin-free fish to the Goans households if the party is voted to power.

He also dared All Goa Wholesale Fish Market Association President Maulana Ibrahim, leader of opposition Digambar Kamat and former minister Michael Lobo to defeat him in Benaulim with their money power.

Addressing the media, Churchill alleged that Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo are handed in gloves with formalin mafia Maulana Ibrahim. “In 2018, I raised my voice against giving formalin-free fish to people in Goa. So Ibrahim is angry with me. That is why he took Dinesh Gundu Rao by the hand and nominated Tony Dias. Congress's tactics to defeat me is by holding hands formalin mafia. Let them put all their money and energy to defeat me, but I will always raise my voice against the use of formalin to preserve fish coming from outside. ” he said.

He exuded confidence that the voters of Benaulim will not fall prey to such tactics and ensure his victor in the coming polls. “This is my last election and I believe that my people will stand firmly behind me,” he said

Churchill demanded that government should finalize the coastal plan as traditional communities including the fisherman are getting displaced with the cadastral plan.

Roy Barreto, leader of the anti-coastal planning movement said that the government should allow fishermen to build houses by conducting a family survey. He also demanded that the house should not be forced to be built in the same place.

The election for the 40 seats will take place on February 14, and the ballots will be counted on March 10.
