The Congress party has announced, so far, two lists of candidates for the 2022 Goa Assembly elections. However, the grand old party has still not named the candidate for South Goa's Benaulim constituency.
Former Tourism Minister and Benaulim MLA Francisco 'Mickky' Pacheco, who has been eyeing for Congress ticket from Benaulim, on Tuesday, January 11, stated that he has "other option if denied ticket from Congress."
"I will not pressurise the party superiors to get a ticket. If Congress rejects my candidature, I have many options. I will reveal my role at the right time," Pacheco told reporters
Addressing media persons, Pacheco said, "I will start my campaign from tomorrow so as not to create confusion among the voters of Benaulim. I personally have more than five thousand votes in Benaulim. Congress leaders know that we have the power to challenge current MLA Churchill Alemao."
"My campaign will be carried out in various palaces, and the election code of conduct will be followed," Pacheco added.
He further said that Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moyatra's statement that there would be an alliance between the Congress and the Trinamool Congress party was misleading.
Congress block president Menino Fernandes, who also reiterated Pacheco's case as MLA in the Benaulim constituency. said that, "We have surveyed Benaulim and Mickky Pacheco is gaining more support as a Congress candidate. After 20 years, this is a good chance for Congress to win in Benaulim."
