As Goa awaits poll results, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, once a senior leader of Goa Congress and two-time Curtorim MLA, on Tuesday hinted at joining BJP if the situation demands post-elections results.

Speaking to media persons. Reginaldo said, "Even in my bad times, the people of Curtorim have stood firm with me. Now my only goal is to work for them. If need be, I can go with the BJP for it."

The former Congress leader made the remarks while discussing the possibility of independent candidates supporting the BJP if the party doesn't get the full majority in the assembly.

"In the past, when I was in the Congress and when I was used to supporting BJP to get my work done, I used to get a lot of criticism from everyone. But if I win now, I will be independent so there will be no restrictions on me," he said

He expressed confidence in winning this assembly election with a majority of votes.

Reginaldo resigned from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) within a month of joining it and contested as an independent candidate for the Assembly poll 2022.

In December 2021, Lourenco had quit the Congress party and the Goa Assembly and joined TMC in the presence of party supremo Mamata Banerjee and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata.

Meanwhile, Congress candidate Moreno Rebello said this shift will not happen to Curtorim. "In Curtorim, only Congress will win," Rebello said.
