Senior Rajya Sabha member and Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal on Tuesday, January 11, denied rumours that suggest a possible alliance between Congress and Trinamool Congress ahead of the 2022 Goa Assembly Election, saying that Congress has no intentions to go in alliance with the TMC.

Taking to Twitter, the Rajya Sabha MP termed the rumours as completely “baseless and untrue.”

"The rumour in circulation that a possible alliance with TMC was discussed by Shri Rahul Gandhi in today's meeting is completely baseless & untrue. Let me assure you that the Congress party is confident- we will put Goa back on the path to progress soon," wrote the senior Congress leader.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had held a meeting through video conferencing with the General Secretary KC Venugopal and Senior Observer of All India Congress Committee for Goa, P Chidambaram after returning to India from a personal visit to abroad.

On Saturday, Chidambaram had said that his party would accept the support of any party who had the common task of defeating the BJP. He said that he had read TMC’s statement for an alliance but added that “let us wait and watch.”
