As the polling day for the 2022 Goa assembly election inches closer, the battlefield Goa is all set to witness a thrilling multi-party contest between the Congress, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Trinamool Congress (TMC), Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), Goa Forward Party, among other, on 14 February.

In a rapid-fire interview, Gomantak Times speaks to BJP candidate from Dabolim, Mauvin Godinho.

Hw is your election campaign going on so far? how are people responding to your campaign?

I have been getting a very good response from the voters. I have never experienced such a response in any of mye previous seven elections. People were welcoming us with aartis during the door-to-door campaign. I have been helping the people of the constituency from time to time in case of emergency. We and our workers worked hard to resolve issues. I have also taken the initiative to bring schemes like Ladli Lakshmi, Griha Aadhar, Mukhyamantri Rozgar Yojana to the doorsteps of the people. I think voters are welcoming us as an acknowledgment of all this work.

What development work did you carry out in your tenure?

Almost 90 per cent of the development work has been completed. The hotels and hospital has been upgraded. Wade Lake, where Ganesh is immersed, was polluted and dirty and now it has been beautified. A joggers park has been set up. There is a widening of the food court and walking facilities. A new ground has been constructed at Bogmalo. The first flyover in the area has been built near the airport. There are many other such projects which we are looking forward.

What will you do to help the youth?

I have two challenges. The first is to build drainage facilities and the second is to empower the youth. So far, 104 people have been given government jobs. About 400 people have been provided with private jobs. But that is not enough. So I have an idea to come up with an effective solution for unemployment. However, I will not reveal it now. I am going to make that idea a reality.

You've served as a Transport minister. In Goa there are often concerns about the roads. What do you have to say about it?

I am not in that position to talk about that part and I am not responsible for roads. One thing is for sure, our ministers have not done as expected, but we will try to give better roads in the future.
