Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party's Goa chief Deepak Dhavalikar on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of floating around malicious rumours about tensions in the alliance formed by Trinamool Congress and the MGP.
He also confirmed that the seat-sharing arrangement between the two parties would be announced by Thursday afternoon, adding that the two parties would also finalise the chief ministerial face of the alliance soon.
"There is a lot of fake news these days. This is a national level fake news. We have already formed an alliance with the Trinamool. Seat-sharing is on. By tomorrow afternoon seat-sharing (discussions) will end. Trinamool announced some of its candidates yesterday (Tuesday), we will be announcing our candidates tomorrow (Thursday) ," Dhavalikar told a press conference.
"Spreading such news before an election and creating a misunderstanding in the minds of the voters and disturbing people is done by those who feel that the sand is slipping from under their feet. The sand under the BJP's feet is slipping and they dream a lot. From those dreams, they come up with such news. We have given a word to the Trinamool Congress and we have kept that word. We will form a government and that, the BJP fears," Dhavalikar also said.
On Wednesday, IT cell convenor for BJP Goa Sidharth Kuncalienkar took to twitter to give momentum to the rumours of MGP and TMC breaking up. He said, "News of #MGP & @AITCofficial breaking up floating around. Sure that with @Dev_Fadnavis at helm of election affairs, something good is expected!!"
This isn't the first time MGP and TMC had to prove the strength of their alliance. MGP-TMC alliance had faced another roadblock in last month when former Trinamool Congress functionary Lavoo Mamledar, who is currently with Congress, alleged that MGP and TMC formed an alliance behind a deal worth crores. He alleged that MGP had sold 31 seats to Trinamool in exchange for 1 crore. He added that TMC would pay the remaining money directly to the beneficiary.
MGP would be contesting 10-11 seats out of the total 40 in the upcoming Goa assembly elections.
