Ahead of the 2022 Assembly polls, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal landed in the state’s commercial capital and interacted with businessmen and entrepreneurs in Margao on Tuesday,December 28.
Entrepreneurs in Goa met Goyal at Shanu Pai Panandikar's residence and demanded that the duration of the Centre's Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) scheme be extended for another two years to boost exports of the product.
He was accompanied by Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik, president of Goa State Industries Association Damodar Kochkar and Sudin Nayak, presidents of the Goa Small Industries Association.
Goyal also visited the house of Pramit Raikar, Goa Gold Dealers Association President and listened to the problems of goldsmiths in Goa. After Raikar raised the issue that it takes 15 to 20 days to complete the process as there are not enough hallmarking centres in Goa.
Raikar said that Goyal suggested to the trade association to change the law to start such centres.
Goyal met Goan sculptor, Maendra Alvares, who is involved in the tourism industry and got to know the ins and outs of the industry. He also interacted with entrepreneurs at a hotel in Margao.
