To motivate workers to form quality circles with their companies and also to provide a platform to exchange ideas and share experiences, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Goa State Office, organised the Fourth Edition of the ‘Quality Circle Competition - Goa State Level at Vivanta by Taj in Panjim.

The CII Quality Circle Competition is a great learning opportunity for both, the companies who are competing as well as the companies who join as participants.

The event saw participation of MSMEs from various sectors. Senior managers, supervisors and management personnel got an insight into examples of Quality Circles and understood how to promote and encourage the QC movement within their own organisations.

At the inaugural, Convenor CII Panel on Manufacturing and Location Head, Siemens Ltd, Mahendra Wani, spoke about the concept of a Quality Circle, which is a participatory management technique that helps employees in solving problems related to their own jobs.

He said, "Quality circles are formed by employees to discuss problems of quality and to devise solutions for improvements. Employees who participate in quality circles usually receive training in formal problem-solving methods such as brain-storming, pareto analysis, and cause-and-effect diagrams. They are also encouraged to apply these methods either to specific or general company problems."

Wani also mentioned that after completing the analysis, the findings are presented to the management and implementation of approved solutions is handled.

Looking at the large participation by companies, Wani mentioned that the robust participation in the event indicates that there is a widespread use of quality tools among companies in Goa which will ultimately result in delivering quality products to the end user.
