IHCL conducts training session for Goa's GTDC staff

A one-day training was held at the Taj Resort & Convention Centre, Dona Paula, and aimed at enhancing the service standards at GTDC Residencies in Goa

The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), recently conducted a one-day training programme for the staff of Goa Tourism Development Ltd (GTDC) Residencies at the Taj Resort and Convention Centre, in Dona Paula.

The aim of the session was to showcase IHCL’s signature hospitality and included an interactive session with the Learning and Development Team of IHCL, Goa, on the current trends and potential learnings of this rapidly evolving industry.

The training was attended by senior and experienced members belonging to various departments, including housekeeping, food and beverage service, food and beverage production, front office, engineering and horticulture.

During the training session, participants were trained and equipped with techniques and skills, which can be used on a daily basis in hotel operations as well as correct use of state-of-the-art equipment for effective time management with bulk requirements.

Senior Vice President – Goa for IHCL, Vincent Ramos, spoke about the initiative and said that unlike other states in the country, tourism was the backbone of Goa’s economy, "... with 40% of the population directly or indirectly dependent on it. Hence, it is imperative that we adapt to the changing tourism landscape and match the service expectations of today’s traveller," he said.

He further added that Goa had the potential to position itself as the world’s best travel and leisure destination. "With the combined and unified effort of all the partners and stakeholders in the industry, I am certain that Goa can achieve exemplary standards in tourism.”

The participants also put forth issues and challenges, faced by each department.

Chairman – GTDC, Dr Ganesh Gaonkar said, “We are immensely grateful to the IHCL team for extending their resources and support towards enhancing the service standards at GTDC Residencies."

Gaonkar further said that the IHCL is the hallmark of Indian hospitality, with a service culture that has been nourished over 118 years and practised across 50 global destinations.
