Once there was a time when we would reuse items like ballpoint pens. But today, we are more inclined to buy a new pen rather than refills, which are hardly available anymore. We use the ballpoint pen once and throw it away.
The throw-away culture is gaining dominance day by day. People are mostly oblivious to the damage being done to the environment, creating a vicious cycle of pollution.
The mindset is such that we assume that certain things can be used once and thrown away.
Clothing, cutlery, toilet paper, cotton pads and health-related products are manufactured in great amounts. These then increase the load of garbage, thereby harming the environment. What could be the solution to stop this?
Some innovative individuals are trying hard to contribute towards decreasing the load on the environment. They are trying to devise solutions which may help reduce pollution and save the environment. The contribution may be small but the effects will not be negligible.
One such solution has been provided by Jane D’Souza, Blossom Rodrigues and Jolene Lobo, the brains behind the pop-up thrift store Sale Swap Takeaway. The trio have been promoting this concept via Instagram.
The store takes things that people no longer find useful but are in a good condition. In turn, people get credit which they can use to buy other items they might need from the store. Anybody can visit this Instagram handle and buy things.
The Sale Swap Takeaway store has organised a sale of pre-loved and refurbished articles at Koshaa Organic Store in Porvorim, which is run by Siddhesh Volvoikar, on the occasion of Christmas.
Second-hand but viable articles like clothes, cutlery, crockery, gift items, toys and home appliances will be available for people to buy.
One of the collaborators in this endeavour Jane D’Souza says, “People have realised the importance of this venture. Instead of throwing away used items, somebody else can use them.
Then it is not only reused but also helps to reduce the burden on the environment.
Jane D’Souza, Blossom Rodrigues and Jolene Lobo list the items accumulated with them once a month. People select and buy whatever they require from this list.
The Christmas sale will be on for one week till December 18. The exhibition is located behind Sanjay School, Porvorim, where one can buy required items at a discounted price.
These items can also be bought through Instagram. Your decision to reuse can make a difference for sure!
