9th World Ayurveda Congress gets underway in Goa

Series of talks, debates and discussions lined up for the next four days

The 9th World Ayurveda Congress (WAC) and Expo 2022 inaugurated on Thursday in Panjim will endeavour to showcase the efficacy and strength of the Ayush system of medicines at the global level. The conclave, one of its biggest kind, was inaugurated in the presence of Union Minister of State for Tourism and Shipping, Ports and Waterways Shripad Naik, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that stakeholders and students of Ayurveda should remain grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for setting up the Ayush ministry in Indiapost-Independence.

Sawant further said that PM Modi's consistent efforts have led to June 21 getting the tag of International Day for yoga. I would also like to thank the PM for allowing people to get Ayush visas for coming to India to avail Ayurvedic medical treatment, he added. He said Ayurveda shows one path to living a healthy life. Ayurveda practitioners should focus on maintaining the health of an individual by treating the disease.

Hundreds of delegates, researchers, doctors attended the inaugural function of 9th World Ayurveda Congress.

Ayurveda follows the concept of "Dinacharya" which emphasises the cycle of waking, sleeping, exercising, meditation etc and "Rutucharya" which is the change in diet as per seasonal change to synchronise with nature. Ayurveda is getting recognised and accepted at a global level, the CM added.

Shripad Naik, Minister of State for Tourism and Ports recalled, "A few years ago at the WAC in Delhi, PM Modi had said that Ayurveda, Yunani etc medicine streams need to be accepted and promoted. "Our ancestorsdeveloped Ayurveda and put it before the world, he added.

Govind Gaude, Minister for Art & Culture, Sports said, "It's a very proud moment for Goa to host this event. It is very important for the common person to know about Ayurveda. This world congress will create much awareness to take Ayurveda to great heights".

Vishwajeet Rane, Minister for Health, in his address said, "Today, people all over the world take Ayurveda science seriously. We as a state of Goa would like to take ahead the vision of PM Modi." We are happy to be the partners of Vighyan Bharati and Ayush Ministry to host this World Ayurveda Congress in Goa," he stated.

Meanwhile, when contacted Dr Gaurav Desai, Ayurveda professor at Ayurveda College Shiroda and one of the core members of World Ayurveda Congress and Arogya Expo 2022 said, "Medical professionals, academicians, and students will get to know the latest in the field of Ayurveda.

People should attend the event to take advantage of the series of talks, discussions, debates and exchange of ideas, innovations and new trends in the Ayurveda field over the next four days."
